Dead Heat Calculator
When runners finish level, dead-heat rules divide your stake by the number tied (adjusted for how many paid places they share), then pay full odds on the reduced stake.
Worked example
£10 at 6/1 in a two-way dead heat for first: stake is halved to £5, returning £5 × 7 = £35 (a £25 profit). Three tied for the last two places at 4/1 with £10: stake counts as £10 × 2/3, returning £33.33.
FAQs
Do I lose money in a dead heat?
Not always. At odds above evens a two-way dead heat still returns a profit; at evens you get your stake back.
Does a dead heat affect each-way bets?
It applies to whichever part (win or place) is involved in the tie.
What about dead heats in football?
Markets like top goalscorer use the same rule when players tie.
