Rule 4 Deduction Calculator
When a horse is withdrawn too late for a new market to be formed, bookmakers apply Tattersalls' Rule 4. Winnings (not stakes) on bets struck at earlier prices are reduced by a set number of pence in the £, based on the withdrawn horse's price. Total deductions are capped at 75p.
Worked example
£10 at 5/1 when a 5/2 shot is withdrawn: the deduction is 25p, so profit of £50 becomes £37.50 and the return is £47.50.
